Already, we
have had many severe weather events this year, many of which were throughout
the summer. We all know about the devastating effects of climate change and what
it is like to experience these. I find it frustrating that so many Governments
throughout the world are slow in doing anything about reducing fossil fuel use (the
main contributor to climate change) or are even refusing to do anything about
it. The people in their countries suffer just as much as those in other
countries. That’s my little grumble today.
we were waiting for a cyclone to pass over our country. Many communities were
still reeling from previous flooding. I prayed frequently that God would reduce
the severity and keep people safe, particularly for the city my children live
in, and my city.
We had very
strong winds and rain, but nowhere near what we were expecting. There were, of
course, some areas that were severely affected by flooding and landslides, with
hundreds of people evacuating. So many families were devastated as their homes
and properties flooded and four people died. However, in the two cities I was
particularly praying for, the cyclone was not as severe as predicted, the
flooding and damage was minimal. God is good, He loves to answer prayers, and
this was an absolute answer to prayer. He loves us to be bold in our prayers;
he loves to answer small requests and big requests. He is sovereign, He is
trustworthy. Even in the deepest disasters, God is good. We simply do not know
the end game for any of us. What we do know, is when God formed us, he already
knew our future, and he had ordained the number of our days (Psalm 139:16). Right
from the beginning, he had a plan and purpose for our lives. It may be hard to
understand why God would let ‘stuff’ happen, but we do know He can use that ‘stuff’
for our good (Romans 8:28). So, if you are going through disastrous times, take
heart. God is in it with you and can use it all.
