Christianity is a bit of an oxymoron I think. It is about believing what you
want to believe regardless of what scripture says, it is about rationalizing scripture
to meet your own beliefs and actions, it is about doing whatever seems good to
you and fits your own selfish desires. Therefore, it cannot be called
Christianity.
Do we
really believe homosexuality and transgender ideology is scriptural? Do we
really believe that God has no problem with abortion or euthanasia? Do we
really believe that gay marriage is fine? If you believe this, then you are
reading a different Bible than I am – and it is not the true Word of God.
If all
these things are fine, then why did Jesus bother going through the agony of
dying on the cross? What is sin? Sin is very clearly defined in Scripture if it
is read with integrity, humility and honesty. We all sin – every day. But when
we refuse to admit we are sinning because it doesn’t fit the actions we take or
the way we want to live our lives (regardless of what Scripture says), then we
are pursuing and deliberately ignoring sin in our lives.
What will
be next I wonder? Is murder scriptural – after all, David arranged for Uriah’s murder,
and God said he was a man after His own heart. Let’s just conveniently forget
how God punished David for this sin. We could twist scripture to make rape acceptable.
Paedophilia isn’t specified as a sin so that must be allowed.
It bothers
me to find sites that say we can ignore all the sexual sins in Leviticus
because it was all to do with the culture of the time and after all, Jesus came
to abolish the necessity to conform to Old Testament rules. Well, read the New
Testament where sexual sin is addressed.
We are a
sinful and broken people. Without God, we have no hope. We repent and ask
forgiveness for our sin and God is ‘faithful and just to forgive us our sin and
cleanse us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). Repent is an important word
here. It means recognising and asking forgiveness for our sins, and it also
means turning from our sin.
Asking
forgiveness for our sin, is not about twisting scripture to make our selfish,
prideful, sinful actions seem acceptable.
May you
find truth, in your reading of the Scriptures.
