Today I sat
with my elderly friend who is also dying of cancer. She is another wonderful
testimony of God’s grace. She was diagnosed in June last year and since then
has daily felt God’s presence and unfathomable peace. She told me that every
morning since the diagnosis she has prayed submission and acceptance to God’s
will and every day she experiences the peace and the freedom that only comes
from God. She doesn’t know how many days or weeks she has left. She is on
regular morphine and sleeps a lot, but when awake speaks often of God’s
faithfulness. We had a wonderful conversation about spiritual matters; she can’t
wait to be in her Saviours arms. She has a beautiful large painting of Jesus on
her wall behind her bed, positioned so that she can see it in her mirror. A
friend painted it. It is one of the most beautiful paintings I have seen of
Jesus. In it, He is looking down and to the side smiling and His face radiates
joy. She had an image while in hospital of herself and Jesus, sitting on a
picnic rug under a tree sharing a salad. She had been unable to eat and all she
wanted was a fresh salad. What a beautiful picture. In the past, I spent around
thirty plus years serving in children’s ministry. I had a friend who had a
remarkably simple Godly outlook and regularly saw, and painted, pictures of
Heaven. One day she telephoned me and told me she had been given a vision for
me. She saw me sitting on the bank of a sparkling stream that was filled with
gemstones. Children were splashing in the stream, and I had a child on my lap.
Jesus sat beside me with a child on his lap also and we were making daisy chains.
Jesus finds joy in us; he laughs easily and is filled with love. Oh, how
precious these reminders are. How precious the blood he shed for us so that we
might spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
