I start my day with reading my Bible, maybe working through
a study or sometimes just immersing myself in the Psalms. This is followed by a
short prayer time. I talk to God frequently throughout the day and discuss all
sorts of things with him, totally relying on him to be present—as He has promised.
I pray before going to bed. But my absolutely favourite time with God is
talking to him as I walk outside in his beautiful creation every day.
I am blessed to have a large park not far from my home. It
takes me around thirty five minutes to walk there, walk around the park and
then walk home—a nice distance of three and a half kilometres. It helps me stay
fit but the mental, emotional and spiritual benefits far outweigh the physical.
There are many trees throughout this park, two ponds and a
stream, a picnic area and a children’s playground and skate-park. As I follow
the footpath I am overwhelmed with the variety and colours of the leaves, the
amazing tree trunks all different shapes and sizes, the wildlife on the ponds.
I rejoice at seeing families enjoying a picnic or barbeque and parents interacting
with their children in the playground. There are cyclists, dog-walkers, joggers
pushing toddlers in their strollers. Yet it is also peaceful. I gaze up at the
sky marvelling at God’s creativity, His artistry.
As I walk I pray. Sometimes it is just me telling God all
about stuff that’s bothering me. Sometimes it is just walking quietly in His
presence and listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it is praying
for people and maybe spiritual warfare (I often wonder what people might think
of me in those times as I can get a bit emotional!). Sometimes it is all so
beautiful that praise and worship simply pours from me.
I feel so sorry for those who look upon the earth but cannot
see that only God could create something so intricate and amazing. But I feel
so blessed that God reveals himself to me through his creation.
I love prayer walking—it is such a privilege to not only be
able to talk to God anywhere and anytime but to also enjoy His handiwork as I
do so. May you each be blessed as you walk with God.
