Oh yes, here we go again! We have
put together enough savings to renovate the rest of our house—we hope. This
time, we have a better idea of which questions to ask and we also have a secret
weapon. My brother is staying with us currently and he has renovated five houses
so is very experienced.
We will put in a new kitchen,
replace old fashioned (drooping) ceilings in the living areas, demolish the old large feature fireplace and replace it with a stunning wall to wall storage cabinet to free up
space in the rest of our smallish living areas. Our archways are going to be
squared off which will give an allusion of more space and then of course there
will be painting, wallpapering, carpeting and vinyl to be laid. Not to speak of
the work that needs to be completed outside the house if funds hold out.
It all seems overwhelming. However,
being an organized person I made a plan. Step by step in the order that things
needed to be done. This makes it a bit more manageable and my brother continues
to encourage me that one step at a time is all I need. So, the kitchen designer
is booked to visit, and I have the boxes to start packing up the lounge. Once
this is done we will start stripping wallpaper. All I can say is, “Thank you
God for my brother,” who is younger and more energetic than my husband and I.
God is so good. After praying about
all this, I have a real peace about spending money on this project as until we
renovated the bathroom, laundry, toilet and bedrooms about four years ago, we
had not paid out any real money on our house in the forty four years we have
owned it. Raising a family is enough to keep you poor!
The house is looking old-fashioned
and shabby and needing some repair so the time has come. I fully believe that
when God provides a warm, dry home for us it is our responsibility to look
after it as a continuing act of thankfulness.
Praise God for His provision and
for His continuing peace.
Stay tuned as I journey through this
renovation experience. See you next week.
