I
have talked before about life getting busy when you are retired. This month is
particularly busy for me. I have extra church involvement this month on top of
my usual volunteer activities. I have recently acquired a long list for
pastoral care of others that I need to get started on. My mother’s house is
going on the market so extra work needs to be done on the house first, plus
organizing a garage sale and seeing what members of the extended family might
want as keepsakes or because it is something they need, whilst trying to be
fair to everyone. Of course I am also trying to get my spring cleaning finished.
I have an all-day conference coming up shortly and am fitting in a trip to
visit the grandchildren. Plus completing my normal day to day activities. AND
COFFEE! How do I deal with all this?
I
take Matthew 11:28 to heart. ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry
heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’ (NLT).
At the beginning, throughout and at the end of each day, I spend time with God. He gives me rest for my soul so I don’t let anxiety about how I can accomplish everything, consume me. I find I have the strength to do whatever needs to be done that day. I remember Jesus telling us ‘therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’ (Matthew 6:34). So instead of thinking of what I have to do this month, I just take one day at a time and this gives me not only peace, but a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. So lean on Him because He is able.
Blessings
