This renovation stuff is not for the faint hearted! Work is going ahead
on dismantling our feature fireplace. The bricks and mantelpieces are down, the
tiles on the hearth are gone and the top layer of concrete on our two tier
hearth has gone—with some difficulty. We are on the bottom layer of concrete on
the hearth and IT IS THICK. My brother has a small demolition hammer and is
drilling into the concrete but it is extremely slow going. Yesterday involved
much work with a crowbar and a sledge hammer plus a tool for cutting the
multiple reinforcement bars within the concrete. I was on clean-up, raking and
sweeping concrete chunks into piles then removing them to a wheelbarrow until
someone had time to take it to the steadily growing pile of waste.
So work is progressing. But the dust!
We cover everything in the open plan living area with sheets, blankets
and plastic sheets, but the dust seeps into everything. We are doing our utmost
not to track dust into the sleeping quarters and utility rooms but it is
amazing how it sneaks under doors. Our food and drink feels gritty, door
handles are gritty, everything is gritty!
We need the builder to give his estimate, but we have to decide on the
type of lighting and where the downlights will go as his firm will also provide
the electrician and the plumber. We need to confirm the kitchen design as this
also affects the builder, electrician and plumber. While all this is happening,
my husband wants our old barbeque area demolished as it is rotten and a hazard,
then rebuilt before the winter sets in. Winter in our part of the world is on
its way. This requires quotes for a new structure, quotes for the digger to
remove the pavers and the old brick barbeque, plus getting the concrete in and
the structure rebuilt. So it is all happening and more stressful than I had
actually expected.
Matthew 11, verse 28 says ‘come to me all who labour and are heavy laden
and I will give you rest.’ Psalm 23
tells me that The Lord ‘leads me beside quiet waters and refreshes my soul.’
So as I regularly give God my days, the project, my feelings of being
overwhelmed. He is faithful and gives me rest for my soul. I pray for all those
who might be reading this that He would give you peace and rest for your soul.
Amen
