Rest

I am sitting in my rather cold office, but looking out at beautiful autumn sunshine. Although I woke with a slight cough and a stuffy nose, I went for my usual walk in the local park. It is so beautiful. The autumn leaves are a mass of colour and cover the grass like a patchwork quilt. How majestic is your creation, oh God. I worshipped as I walked; I could do no less. Arriving home, I had several chores to do, which took me to lunchtime. I decided to do my writing, then relax over a late lunch, so I can have a simpler afternoon of rest. We visited children and grandchildren last weekend, I had a pile of washing when we arrived home and it has been a busy week. With another busy weekend ahead, I need to simplify as much as I can, and take rest when I can. If you are tired and weary, diary some rest and relaxation. It is important to do this, if we are to continue on and stay well. It is Biblical. Jesus withdrew from the crowds of people at times and spent time resting, prayin...

A Psalm

Father, you are the God of ‘more’. I’m thirsty, I want to experience your ‘more’. More of your presence; More of your filling; More of your joy; More of your peace; I dare to say, more of your love. Unfathomable, compassionate, merciful, Unconditional love—with an invitation to respond. I walk in the park and perceive your presence, Your love surrounds me, And yet? I want more. More intimacy. Open my heart to receive your ‘more’. You invite me to drink from the well of living water So I will never be thirsty again; you refresh my soul. You are the God of more. Overflowing with more than I can imagine I drink deeply, expectantly. And there is always, more.

To serve or not to serve!

While volunteering at church this morning, I had a conversation with one of our church family members who coordinates community meals. I asked how it was going, he replied that all was well, although volunteers were a little light on the ground currently. “But,” he went on to say, “I’m not going around asking for volunteers, I’m waiting for God to send them.” What a lovely way to demonstrate faith and trust in the Lord. It reminded me of the time I spoke lovingly to one of our older women in the congregation about jumping into volunteering for everything. Hers was the first name on the list every time, but then she would suffer from exhaustion—she was a small woman, with very few reserves. In the church service, if the minister asked for someone to come up to help demonstrate a point or do something else, she would jump to her feet and rush up. I experienced the Holy Spirit prompting me some of those times, but before I could get up, she was there. I felt as if she had take...
