Perseverance

So only a few more days left of our September walking challenge. I was happily cruising at fourth place when suddenly, the young man coming fifth decided in the last few days to give it everything he’s got! Instead of his usual 1.5 – 2.5 km a day he is suddenly completing around 9 km a day. One day he even did 18 km with two 9 km walks. He soon passed me. I was not taking that lying down. I increased my number of kilometres to around five and one day even accomplished eight. However, this was not enough and I simply cannot match his pace. I have tried my best; I committed, I am enduring, I continue to persevere. So, in the Christian life we commit, we endure, we persevere especially when it get hard. God walks with us through it all. We do our best and rely on the work of the Holy Spirit to continue to perfect us. At the end of our lives, there will not be a first, a second, a third; we will ALL receive the crown of life. So keep running the race and persevere and you WILL re...

Accept the Challenge

My daughter arranges walking challenges every second month for any of her friends who wish to give it a go. She encouraged me to join the September challenge to try and walk two hundred kilometres over the month. I find that around three or so kilometres a day is about all I can manage—it’s actually about all I can fit in too! So I have been tramping the streets and parks daily. I am feeling rather good about myself although that distance might not seem a lot. After not quite three weeks I am coming fourth out of the ten people who accepted the challenge, all who are considerably younger than me. First place so far had completed ninety four plus km, second place close behind. I have completed sixty three and am very happy with that. It occurs to me it would be very easy to put my daily walk off. My life is chaotic and busy currently and it takes around forty minutes out of my day. But I have committed to this and am determined to persevere. The Christian walk is like that. ...

Learning to let go

Well, dates are in place for finishing the renovations, barring anything untoward happening. ·          This week the painters finally finished. ·          Next week the kitchen is dismantled with builders, electricians and plumbers all in the loop. ·          On the same day as the kitchen is dismantled, the appliances are delivered and the vinyl flooring goes down. ·          The kitchen is installed the following day (although the benchtops are sitting on a dock somewhere and may not be here in time). ·          The following week the carpet goes down. We have booked help with shifting the piano and will shift the other furniture the day before. ·          The day after the carpet we have cleaners coming in to thoroughly clean th...

When overwhelmed ...

We finally have a date to have the kitchen installed. Unfortunately they kept pushing the installation date out so now it coincides with the installation of the floor coverings. So the flooring company will need to be pushed back, potentially the wallpapering may need to be pushed back and the installation of the heat pump pushed back. I have family arriving in five weeks so the pressure is on. Everything out of our kitchen and living areas were packed up and stored in the spare bedrooms so there is no space for company! We need to get the kitchen in and the flooring down before we can unpack because of the probability of dust. Time will be tight. I am really tired at the moment and could be really stressed. However, I know God is interested in all the details of my life. Many times I have asked Him for help even in small minor things and He has never failed me--that shows His care and love for me. I trust Him. It is safe to leave the final outcome to Him. He knows I have famil...
